Gerard Koopman, a true ambassador and leading figure in international pigeon racing, has recently announced that after nearly 50 years of active participation, he is scaling back his role.

Gerard's influence on the sport goes far beyond just his time commitment; he has bred some of the most iconic and coveted pigeons in the world. Pigeons such as Kleine Dirk, Amoré, Aladin, Annelies, Gentil, and Golden Dirk have made Koopman's pigeons among the most sought-after globally.

His career boasts numerous highlights and inevitable low points, but above all, a legendary status in the world of pigeon racing. Gerard has not only won countless races but has also contributed to popularizing and internationalizing the sport.

Although Gerard will participate in races with his older pigeons for the last time in 2024, he has also announced that there will be a significant auction of his valuable pigeon flock after the season. This will undoubtedly draw considerable attention from the international community.

Despite scaling back, Gerard plans to remain involved in the sport. He will focus on one loft races and will maintain a small number of young pigeons from his elite stock, ensuring that his influence and legacy in pigeon racing are preserved.

More details about his future plans and the upcoming auction will soon be released. Gerard may be taking a step back, but his impressive influence and legacy will undoubtedly continue to resonate within the sport.
